Assalamu Aliakom Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barrakatu!

Welcome to an exciting new year at Noor Weekend Academy! I am looking forward to get to know each and every one of my students, as well as develop and further their understanding of Islam.

Summary of Material to be covered this semester:

-Quran: Memorization, Tajweed, and Analysis 

o   Surahs decided by Umm Hazim (Quran Teacher)

- Islamic Studies: Review the pillars of Islam and Iman, the seerah of Prophet Muhammad (saw), other Prophets (as), and about the Sahabah (ra).

o   Go in depth into each subject mentioned above and relate importance of each subject. Relate subjects learned to real life scenarios. 

o   The goal is to learn in a manner as not just to memorize facts, but to implement the material taught into our lives

- Etiquettes (Adab): Learn and implement good character, learn the Adab of the Prophet (saw), Prophets (as) and Sahaba (ra).

o   InshaAllah this section will be one that we focus on a lot in our class.

- Names of Allah (swt)

o   Memorize the 99 names of Allah swt

o   Learn the meaning of each name and thus learn more about our Creator (Al-Khaliq)

-  Arabic Basics:

o    Arabic alphabet, different forms of each letter and how the letters connect to form words.

-  Discussions:

o   Discuss relevant issues that the students may be facing and try to find solutions through discussion as well as learned material (relevant to the age)

o   Discuss current affairs of Muslim world and general affairs


Being Prepared: Make sure your students come to class prepared. This means having the required textbooks, a notebook and a pencil to take notes with.
Attendance: Thank you to all the parents who bring the students to the gym at the beginning of the school day! It makes the morning run very smoothly, especially with such a big class now, Alhumdhulillah, and we really appreciate it. Please note that students who arrive tardy to class (10 minutes after the assembly, so after 10:15am) will be sent to the office to be checked in, unless you have contacted me ahead of time about being late.

  • Muhammad - The Last Prophet movie 
Two Weeks to Complete HW:
  • Memorize names of Allah 1-10 (with meanings)
  • Memorize surah al-Masad (Quran teacher informed me that many of the students have not memorized this.)
  • Review/memorize all past surahs 
    • Al-Fatiha (Review meaning)
    • Al-Ikhlas (Review meaning)

    • The reason it's called "Umm al-quran" & importance in prayer
  • Names of Allah

      4 Al-Quddus (القدوس) The Pure One

  • Seerah of Muhammad (pbuh) (Unit B, Ch. 3)
  • Quran: Surah Al-Masad
  • Memorize first five names of Allah (listed above)

Class Work:
  • Seerah of Muhammad (pbuh)
    • The year of the elephant & Abraha  ("I Love Islam" Unit B, Ch. 1)
    • Early Life of Muhammad (pbuh) ("I Love Islam" Unit B, Ch. 2)
  • Art with teacher Dua
    • Students participated in a art project in which they crafted pictures of Allah's creations. 
  • Surah Al-Nasr
  • Surah Al-Fatiha 
  • Memorize Surah Al-Fatiha and Al-Nasr
  • Review the Seerah that was taught in class. Know the family of prophet Muhammad (pbuh)
    • Specifically, Abdul-Muttalib, Amina, Abdullah, Haleema 

10/22/17 (Day 4)

Class Work:
  • Review of previous week content.
    • Five pillars of Islam - we spent some time learning about Hajj and Umrah and the difference between the two. 
    • Stories of prophet Ibrahim and Adam (AS)
    • Tafsir of Surat Al-Ikhlas and its significance 
  • Surah Al-Nasr  
  • Surah Al-Fatiha

  • Memorize surah al-Nasr. (If already memorized, work on proper pronunciation)
  • Know five pillars of Islam (https://sunnah.com/bukhari/2/43) (Hadith I shared with the students about Jibril and the five pillars of Islam)
  • Extra credit for memorizing surat Al-Ikhlas translation: for those that haven't done this yet and still want a prize, I'm extending the deadline to next Sunday. 

10/15/17 (Day 3)

Class Work:
  • Pillars of Islam
  • Seerah: The year of the Elephant (story of Abraha) (Can be found in the begining of Unit B in "I Love Islam")

  • I was not able to make it to teach this Sunday. Due to this no homework was assigned. 

10/8/17 (Day 2)

Class Work:
  • Story of prophet Adam - (Can be found in Unit A of "I Love Islam" book)
  • Story of prophet Ibrahim (Can be found in Unit A of "I Love Islam" book)
  • Tafsir of surat al-Ikhlas

    • Students learned about the conditions that contributed to this surah being revealed, the meaning of the surah, and what it tells us about Allah and his oneness. 
    • Key word: As-Samad, Al-Ahad 
  • Surah Al-Ikhlas
    • Most of the students reported that they have this memorized, but the quran teacher informed me that tajweed needs improvement. 

  • Practice Tajweed for Surah al-Ikhlas

  • Review Tafsir of Surah al Ikhlas (Basic understanding of what the surah is conveying)
    • Special prize will be awarded for students who memorize the translation 

10/1/17 (Day 1)

Class Work:
  • Great first day! Students were given the opportunity to introduce themselves and share their interests. To start off the year I took the opportunity to set expectations that students should abide by. These include bringing a notebook and pencil to take notes, having the required books, and respecting the teacher and fellow students by being attentive non-disruptive. 
  • "Muhammad- The Last prophet" cartoon. 
  • Surah Al-Ikhlas
    • Although most students have this surah memorized, this year we will be focusing on quality and not quantity. Tajweed (proper recitation) will be emphasized by the quran teacher, and inshallah we will be delving into the tafsir (meaning) of the surah's being taught.  
  • No homework for this first week. Just make sure students bring a pencil and notebook, as well as their books if they already have them.
